I’ve watched organizations move so fast during transformation that they lost sight of what they were actually trying to become.
Everything became urgent:
• rapid decisions
• constant pivots
• accelerated implementations
• nonstop reprioritization
From the outside, it looked agile.
Inside the organization, it often felt chaotic.
Teams became exhausted.
Priorities continuously shifted.
Transformation fatigue started building underneath the surface.
And despite all the movement, many organizations struggled to answer a much larger question:
What are we actually building toward?
Because speed alone is not strategic agility.
True agility is not just the ability to react quickly.
It is the ability to adapt intentionally while still maintaining:
• strategic direction
• operational alignment
• decision discipline
• organizational focus
Otherwise, organizations risk creating environments where:
• urgency replaces strategy
• reaction replaces foresight
• execution speed replaces thoughtful decision-making
I sometimes compare it to running on a treadmill.
A tremendous amount of energy is being expended, but the organization may not actually be moving forward in a meaningful direction.
In my experience, sustainable agility requires leadership teams capable of balancing:
• speed
• clarity
• operational readiness
• organizational capacity
• long-term alignment
Because organizations that move quickly without alignment often become highly efficient at changing direction without fully understanding where they are trying to go.
